Company Explores Cloud Computing, Global Expansion, and TV, Video and Media Developments

August 18, 2010 10:12 AM Eastern Daylight Time

NEW YORK–(EON: Enhanced Online News)–NTT America, a wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) and a global IP network services provider, today announced activities over the last quarter in support of major technology and global business trends. The company’s strategic investments are supporting customers in three main areas including cloud computing initiatives, network performance demands for new applications and the maturing of the Latin American market. Several company executives have also participated in a variety of key technology and business forums to share their experiences with Internet media market opportunities, IPv6 and business investments to support an unfolding global market.

Last quarter included NTT America’s most recent product announcement, which extends its VLink multi-location Ethernet solutions line to provide enterprises direct connectivity over multiple locations in the United States. Using VLink, content providers, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and enterprises have access to more secure network connections to interconnect corporate Ethernet-based LANs or to migrate from private lines to an Internet-based solution. VLink takes advantage of the reach and reliability of the NTT Communications Global Tier-1 IP Network to provide cost-effective IPv4 or dual stack IPv4/IPv6 on the same port.

Fostering corporate initiatives, company executives have taken part in several speaking venues on current and emerging trends in telecommunications and business including:

  • Co-hosting the 27th edition of Reunión Iberoamericana Tráfico Internacional, a bi-annual event, which brings together influential telecom executives and representatives from more than 150 carriers to discuss challenges and opportunities in the Latin American region. Michael Wheeler, vice president of the Global IP Network, NTT America, participated on the opening executive roundtable, “Regulation and Competence for New Investments and Infrastructures in Response to Challenges of Growth and Expansion of the Latin American Sector.”
  • At the same conference, David Berrios, NTT America’s manager of business development for Latin America, spoke on “International Traffic Models,” discussing methods of reinventing traditional models in light of new competition and next generation networks (NGNs) opportunities.
  • Bringing unique insights to executives in the converging world of film, television, music, video, cable, computing and telecom, Michael Wheeler joined other industry leaders on a panel entitled “Content Delivery-Rich Media-The Three Screen Challenge: PC, TV and Mobile,” at the Digital Hollywood Spring conference. Mr. Wheeler covered how decision makers can cost effectively deploy next generation services and applications to support additional revenue opportunities.
  • Mr. Wheeler spoke on “Leveraging Infrastructure Assets to Get with the Program,” at the OTTcon East conference where he discussed how to combine a provider’s infrastructure assets (technology investments, financial depth, and international access) with a company’s existing assets to successfully deliver OTT TV and video, as well as other new applications. In addition, Mr. Wheeler touched on how new advances in IPv6 and 100GigE provide a platform to give broadcasters, ISPs and infrastructure providers a competitive advantage.
  • Doug Junkins, NTT America’s CTO and vice president of IP development for NTT America’s Global IP Network, addressed “IPv6 Deployment & Commercial Applications at NTT America,” on a FutureNet conference panel entitled, “IPv6: Reality Check.” He discussed current issues and drivers of IPv6, such as new applications and IPv4 address depletion. NTT America is a leader in both the implementation of IPv6 and advocacy for IPv6 adoption and remains committed to sharing IPv6 experience, lessons learned and best practices with other leaders in the industry.
  • The company provided additional support of IPv6 adoption through a gold sponsorship of the Rocky Mountain IPv6 Task Force’s (RMv6TF) IPv6 Summit, the largest annual IPv6 event in North America. Currently, approximately 20 percent of NTT America’s Global IP Network customer ports are IPv6 enabled and 40 percent of NTT America’s peering ports are also IPv6 enabled giving companies a flexible and speedy transition path. IPv6 allows businesses that need to stay competitive on a global basis the ability take advantage of new applications in every market from entertainment to disaster response, while helping to ensure business continuity as IPv4 addresses dwindle.

In addition, NTT America, in partnership with Dynamic Network Services Inc. (DYN Inc.), published a case study, “A DYNamic Duo in Infrastructure,” highlighting the benefits of selecting a Tier-1 Global IP Network in a market that demands high performance response, speed, engineering-based customer support and IPv6 readiness.

Company Sponsors Rocky Mountain IPv6 Summit

NEW YORK–(EON: Enhanced Online News)–NTT America, a wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), and a global IP network services provider, today announced support of its ongoing IPv6 initiative with gold sponsorship of the Rocky Mountain IPv6 Task Force’s (RMv6TF) IPv6 Summit, which will be held at the Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center from May 26 to May 27, 2010 in Denver, Colorado. By supporting IPv6 transit service in native, tunneled or dual stack modes, NTT America provides a flexible and speedy transition path for businesses that need to stay competitive on a global basis, allowing them to take advantage of new applications in every market from entertainment to disaster response, while helping to ensure business continuity as IPv4 addresses dwindle.

Now in its third year, the RMv6TF IPv6 Summit is the largest annual IPv6 event in North America. The two-day educational event and expo will address the current state of IPv6 adoption, what organizations are doing to prepare for the migration to IPv6 and how organizations are already utilizing the benefits of IPv6. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about IPv6 to help stay in front of the technology curve, ensure they have a future career path in network technology and collaborate with others in the field. In addition, IPv6 experts and industry leaders will offer counsel to companies regarding government mandates and business requirements for IPv6 and will provide insight on the proper way to deploy dual-stack (IPv4 and IPv6) operating systems.

NTT America’s IPv6 Tier-1 Global IP Network has evolved to meet the growing needs of international business. Currently, approximately 20 percent of NTT America’s customer ports are IPv6 enabled and 40 percent of NTT America’s peering ports are also IPv6 enabled giving companies unprecedented access to worldwide markets. The most significant growth in IPv6 adoption has been in Internet and telecommunications, hardware and manufacturing as well as web hosting and web services, all highly competitive markets where it is vital to stay ahead of the technology curve.

“We have long been a proponent of IPv6 and recognize the value of education when it comes to supporting businesses in the transition to the next generation Internet,” said Scott Heller, director of marketing for NTT America’s Global IP Network. “As IPv4 addresses continue to deplete, and more and more applications are created on IP, it is imperative that organizations understand the importance of IPv6 when it comes to remaining competitive on a global basis.”

As a leader in both the implementation of IPv6 and advocacy for IPv6 adoption for more than a decade, NTT America remains committed to sharing IPv6 experience, lessons learned and best practices with other leaders in the industry. The NTT Communications Global IP Network was the first Tier-1 network fully upgraded to run IPv6 and is one of the world’s largest commercial IPv6 networks. Support of IPv4 and IPv6 was a factor NTT America considered when the company recently chose to deploy the Cisco® ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router to scale its Global IP Network infrastructure for leading capacity, nonstop video, power efficiency, robust IPv6 support and integrated video monitoring intelligence. As evidence of the company’s ongoing support and knowledge of IPv6 and the growing interest by the business community in preparing to transition to the new protocol, NTT America was invited to participate in a variety of conferences to inform, update and educate on its experiences. The conferences included:

  • In January, NTT America took part in a panel entitled “IPv6–The Next Big Bail Out: Will IPv6 Save the Internet?” at PTC’10 in Honolulu
  • In February, NTT America spoke at APAN 29 in Sydney, Australia highlighting real world IPv6 Commercial Applications
  • In May, NTT America participated on the “IPv6: Reality Check” panel with other industry leaders including Comcast, ARIN and the University of New Hampshire’s InterOperability Laboratory at FutureNet 2010 in Boston

Successes of the SUPERCOMM Press Tour

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

We’re in the middle of a successful tradeshow season here at SCG with Comptel PLUS, SUPERCOMM 2009, Capacity Central America, Ethernet Expo Americas, the Texas IPv6 Conference, and the CTO Telecom Summit already under our belt and AHCIET’s XXVI Reunión Iberoamericana Tráfico Internacional, IEEE Globecom 2009, PTC’10 and the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) still to come.  I thought I’d take a moment and share with you a summary of SUPERCOMM 2009, which was held October 21-23 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois.

Kazuhiro Gomi, COO of NTT America, discussed the challenges and opportunities surrounding the dramatic increase in worldwide demand for Internet access, during his stand-alone speaking engagement, which was secured for NTT America by SCG.

The SUPERCOMM press tour was a resounding success.  A total of eleven briefings were secured with leading IT and telecom publications including Telephony Magazine, InformationWeek, Lightwave, TMCnet, Converge! Network Digest and Streaming Media magazine, and the blogs, FierceTelecom and Broadband Daily; as well the analyst firm, Dell’ Oro Group, and the national daily, Los Angeles Times. We’ve already seen coverage in the SUPEROMM Daily News and on the Network Computingkazuconvergescreenshot1 blog, and the video interviews have been posted on the TMCnet and Converge! Network Digest Web sites.  In addition, as a result of the SUPERCOMM press tour, a bylined article opportunity was secured for NTT America in the Journal of Telecommunications Management, and a speaking engagement was also secured at an upcoming TMCnet event.

Shannon, who traveled to Chicago to assist NTT America’s COO and staff all of the in-person briefings, said she enjoyed the opportunity to meet face-to-face with some of the industry’s leading journalists.  She also said that McCormick Place lived up to its status as the country’s largest conference center and she now understands why Segway’s exist (though she still doesn’t want to be seen on one).
