Margaret graduated Cum Laude from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA with a B.S. with Special Attainments in Commerce. While at Washington and Lee, Margaret was a Business Administration major who was heavily involved with the W&L Repertory Dance Company. Margaret contributed to many organizations at W&L, ultimately being inducted in societies Nu Delta Alpha and Order of Omega, as well as receiving the Michael K. and Linda Gorman Award for selfless service to the fine arts. Margaret developed an interest in communications while taking a journalism course during her senior year of college. Following graduation, Margaret discovered that the combination of both her business and creative backgrounds made public relations the industry for her. Prior to joining SCG, Margaret served as a Business Intern with DeBragga & Spitler, Inc. in New York City where she assisted with marketing, accounting, and IT projects. Most recently, Margaret worked as Director of ReStore RVA, where she primarily oversaw marketing and sales activities.

Successes of the SUPERCOMM Press Tour

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

We’re in the middle of a successful tradeshow season here at SCG with Comptel PLUS, SUPERCOMM 2009, Capacity Central America, Ethernet Expo Americas, the Texas IPv6 Conference, and the CTO Telecom Summit already under our belt and AHCIET’s XXVI Reunión Iberoamericana Tráfico Internacional, IEEE Globecom 2009, PTC’10 and the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) still to come.  I thought I’d take a moment and share with you a summary of SUPERCOMM 2009, which was held October 21-23 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois.

Kazuhiro Gomi, COO of NTT America, discussed the challenges and opportunities surrounding the dramatic increase in worldwide demand for Internet access, during his stand-alone speaking engagement, which was secured for NTT America by SCG.

The SUPERCOMM press tour was a resounding success.  A total of eleven briefings were secured with leading IT and telecom publications including Telephony Magazine, InformationWeek, Lightwave, TMCnet, Converge! Network Digest and Streaming Media magazine, and the blogs, FierceTelecom and Broadband Daily; as well the analyst firm, Dell’ Oro Group, and the national daily, Los Angeles Times. We’ve already seen coverage in the SUPEROMM Daily News and on the Network Computingkazuconvergescreenshot1 blog, and the video interviews have been posted on the TMCnet and Converge! Network Digest Web sites.  In addition, as a result of the SUPERCOMM press tour, a bylined article opportunity was secured for NTT America in the Journal of Telecommunications Management, and a speaking engagement was also secured at an upcoming TMCnet event.

Shannon, who traveled to Chicago to assist NTT America’s COO and staff all of the in-person briefings, said she enjoyed the opportunity to meet face-to-face with some of the industry’s leading journalists.  She also said that McCormick Place lived up to its status as the country’s largest conference center and she now understands why Segway’s exist (though she still doesn’t want to be seen on one).

We’re looking forward to the opportunity to work with the Commonwealth’s agencies and partner with complementary businesses to meet the PR needs of the Commonwealth.

SCG Attends New Media Mixer

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Last week, SCG attended the New Media Mixer at Penny Lane Pub. The monthly event, which is hosted by Richmond-based advertising agency, Madison + Main, brings together individuals eager to learn more about the ins and outs of social media.

The level of social media experience ranges a great deal in the attendees, which represent a wide-variety of local companies. It’s a fun, casual way to personally connect with some of Richmond’s social media leaders, who are willing to share advice and insight with those that are just diving into social media.

SCG values the opportunity to share our experience in social media and serve as a reference to other small businesses that may have questions on making their social media campaign a success.

SCG Promotes World Summit Award Celebration

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

As part of SCG’s pro-bono initiatives, we had the opportunity to work with the IPv6 Forum to issue a press release promoting the World Summit Award (WSA) and World Summit Youth Award (WSYA) Winners’ Celebrations which took place in Monterrey, Mexico.441885_worldsummitaward

The four-day conference and gala celebration provided a unique opportunity to meet and connect with WSA and WSYA winners, information and communication (ICT) experts, multimedia producers and young creatives. In addition, government and business leaders were in attendance to recognize the showcased best practice examples.

The WSA’s global contest on creative content takes place every two years as a follow-on activity to the United Nations World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). This year 545 national finalists from United Nations Member States were selected by 34 eminent e-Content experts.  The submitted projects from 157 countries participating in the fourth edition of the WSA were nominated in one of eight categories to receive global acknowledgement as the world’s best in e-Content.

The WSA is a global not-for-profit activity promoting the most outstanding achievements as a flagship partnership initiative of United Nations Global Alliance for ICT and Development (GAID) and in close collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Internet Society (ISOC) and a worldwide network of partners.

SCG was honored to work with the IPv6 Forum and the WSA around the promotion of such a prestigious event.
