SCG WELCOMES VIRGINIA TECH GRAD AS INTERN
Wednesday, June 9th, 2010Subudhi Consulting Group welcomes Emma Newton
to the team. She will be participating in SCG’s three-month internship program, which provides students with the opportunity to gain practical, real-life work experience in the field of public relations.
Emma graduated Cum Laude from Virginia Tech in May of 2010 with a B.A. in Communication and a minor in English. She discovered her passion for public relations during an introductory PR course that she took her freshman year of college.
While at Virginia Tech, Emma worked on a student public relations campaign for the Virginia Tech Office of Multicultural Alumni Programs where she helped develop a strategic public relations campaign to increase awareness of the program. She also served as a public relations intern for Virginia Tech Outreach and International Affairs where she drafted press releases, feature articles and developed press kits. In addition, she acted as public relations chairman for the Up ‘Til Dawn executive board where she planned and coordinated campus publicity activities to promote participation in the annual fund-raising event for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Emma was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority and was involved with fund-raising and promotion for the organization’s philanthropic events. In addition, Emma contributed as a year-round volunteer for the Linkous Ladies Mentor Program where she served as a mentor and tutor for underprivileged elementary school girls.
Most recently, Emma was a public relations intern at Chamberlain Healthcare Public Relations in New York City where she assisted with the preparation of media pitches and press kits, conducted media research and handled event scheduling.
In her spare time, Emma enjoys traveling, reading, cooking and spending time with friends and family.

While my summer may be gone, I am pleased to report that I am still in one piece and leaving with significantly greater insight and experience than when I first began.
Christine Carlson, a fall 2008 intern, will be joining the SCG team as Program Coordinator. Christine participated in our 3-month internship program from September - Decmeber. Upon completion of the program, she was offered a full-time position at SCG. We look forward to having her on board.
